HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

An astronaut who lived and worked on the International Space Station for five months is back on the ground and made a stop in the Rocket City Wednesday to say thank you.

Chris Cassidy spoke to Marshall Space Flight Center employees and Space Campers. He was part of the crew who helped save Italian astronaut Luca Parmentiano, who nearly drowned when his helmet filled up with water during a spacewalk last year.

Cassidy said we often think about spacewalks as routine until you are actually out there. During his visit, he made a quick phone call to his friends aboard the ISS from Marshall's payload ops center.
