FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A pastor and his congregation in the Shoals are celebrating the recovery of some of the items stolen from them in a burglary last week.

Thieves stole more than $20,000 worth of music equipment from the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, including some instruments considered to be family heirlooms.

Pastor Darryl Whitehead said he was thrilled when he was told a pawn shop in the Huntsville area had purchased what appeared to be the stolen items hours after the burglary happened.

Whitehead said the church has insurance and the equipment would eventually be replaced, but he said you can't put a price on some of the instruments, including a mandolin which has been passed down in one of his church members' families for years.

After news of the burglary first broke, an employee at a Huntsville pawn shop thought he may have purchased some of the items and called the sheriff's department. The mandolin and a few guitars were returned to the church Wednesday.

Investigators are still working to locate the man who sold the items at the pawn shop. Names have not been released at this time.
