RUSSELLVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Russellville Police have charged the man accused of breaking into a girl's bedroom with rape.
Gaspar Perez-Bartolo was already charged with attempted rape and burglary after investigators said he broke into a 12-year-old girl's bedroom and ordered her to remove her clothes.
Since his arrest, the victim told investigators Perez-Bartolo raped her on three separate occasions between October and December 2013. In the Jan. 10 incident, the victim's mother heard a commotion and went to investigate, leading Perez-Bartolo to escape through a window.
He now faces three counts of rape in addition to his previous charges. Police Chief Chris Hargett said he cannot understand why someone would attack an innocent child.
"I have a daughter of my own that's around that age, and I just can't comprehend why anyone that age would do something like that. There's plenty of people out here the same age willing to be in a relationship with something. It's just incomprehensible why someone would do that to a child," he said.
Perez-Bartolo is being held on a $375,000 bond.
