TONEY, AL (WAFF) -

Madison County deputies, Toney Fire & Rescue and other authorities responded to a single vehicle wreck on Pulaski Pike Wednesday morning.

Toney Fire & Rescue said the alarm went out at 6:46 a.m. According to firefighters, the wreck happened at one of the creek bridges between Carter Grove Road and Ary Drive.

Deputies said a woman was driving when she swerved off the road and landed in a small area of water. Authorities said the woman was ejected into the water under the bridge and her 6-year-old son broke his leg.

According to authorities, a passerby stopped and helped the mother, and deputies came and pulled the mother from the water and the little boy from the vehicle.

Firefighters said both victims were transported in serious condition to the hospital by HEMSI.

The cause of the wreck is unknown at this time. State troopers are investigating the crash.
