5-Star freshman Crimson Tide football player arrested

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC/WSFA) -

A University of Alabama freshman football player who has only been enrolled on campus for 10 days found himself in trouble with the law over the weekend.

Cornerback Tony Brown is charged with resisting arrest and failure to obey a police officer.

Tuscaloosa police arrested Brown Sunday morning after receiving a call about a loud party with underage drinking at the Campus Way Apartments on Helen Keller Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they encountered another person, 22-year-old Chavis Taylor, whom they arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. As the officers were taking Taylor to a patrol car, a large crowd estimated at some 40 people gathered around the officers.

Officers ordered the crowd to disperse multiple times but reported that 18-year-old Tony Brown, a five-star recruit who signed with the Crimson Tide, would not back up.

Police say Brown refused their orders to back away and then began yelling profanities at the officers. Officers then deployed pepper spray against the Beaumont, Texas native and pinned him to the ground.

Both Brown and Taylor were then taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail. Brown is out of jail on a $1,500 bond.

Several football recruiting websites rank Brown as the No. 2 cornerback in the nation. The Tuscaloosa News is reporting that Alabama head football coach Nick Saban is aware of the arrest and will address the situation once he has reviewed all the information.
