GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The City of Guntersville is considering hitting the "off" switch on electronic business signs.

Technology has brought high-tech lighting to many signs and some drivers feel it's very distracting.

Mayor Leigh Dollar said City Hall has heard the cries of drivers who do not like to face the light while driving through town. Dollar said they do have zoning laws for electronic signs on the books, but that right now, technology is ahead of them.

The mayor said they hope the Design Review Board and the Historic Preservation Commission will get together and form recommendations to the council. Dollar anticipates there will probably be some ordinance changes.

The issue is expected to be the subject of debate at Monday night's city council meeting.
