Old Hickory library reopens after flood damage

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Old Hickory branch of the Nashville Public Library reopened Thursday morning after five months of renovations to repair flood damage.

Mayor Karl Dean was among those who showed up for the grand re-opening.

Flooding forced the library to close in August when 10 feet of water ruined the elevator, and required the downstairs collections to be stored for safekeeping.

The renovations aren't completely finished on the outside of the building.

"Don't let the outside intimidate you," said Andrea Fanta, the library system's public information officer.

The newly-opened facility will feature flood-related repairs along with improvements that had been scheduled prior to the closure.
