To either keep or fire Carol Wicks as Director of Animal Services will be a decision made by the city council. If it comes to that, it would be put on a Decatur City Council meeting agenda for further review. So far, it is not on the agenda for their next meeting on Sep 2. If the issue comes before the city council, that's when we hope to find out why Mayor Kyle decided to put Wicks on paid administrative leave. He will not comment on it, saying he cannot talk about a pending personnel issue. DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Catherine Henderson is a pharmacist at the Pill Box in Decatur. She's also a coordinator for Scale Back Alabama.

"Scale Back Alabama is a program where participants have ten weeks to lose ten pounds. They work together in teams of four to lose the weight," said Henderson.

Pill Box Pharmacy in Decatur is a weigh-in site. She said it's easy to participate.

Teams can pick a diet or exercise program they all want to use, all the while motivating each other. Teams across the state will compete for $1,000 per team member, as well as other cash prizes. Each member must lose ten pounds to qualify for the statewide drawing.

This program is one where anyone can walk in the door, fill out some forms, and get started.

"Once they come in and weigh in, we'll take some of their personal information such as their e-mail address, and weekly, they will get updates with tips and different motivational tools they can use to lose the weight," Henderson explained.

"Teams can pick a diet or exercise program they all want to use, all the while motivating each other. Teams across the state will compete for $1000 dollars per team member. As well as other cash prizes. Each member must lose 10 pounds to qualify for the statewide drawing", adds Henderson.

Participants have different reasons for getting involved. Kara Sparkman is a certified pharmacy technician who said the bottom line is health. "The amount of diseases and illnesses that can be prevented due to a healthy lifestyle... is the reason I got involved to be healthier."

Daphne Boughton is also a certified pharmacy technician and marketing director. "I got involved with Scale Back Alabama to help with the obesity epidemic that's hitting the United States. Who doesn't have a few pounds they need to lose?"

The program is open from Jan. 20-24, a large scale effort to make a healthier Alabama.
