LIVINGSTON, LA (WAFB) -

Court officials said a man accused of rape and scheduled to go on trial Monday changed his plea and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The 21st Judicial District Attorney's Office reported Luke Carrier, 36, of Maurepas, pleaded no contest to forcible rape.

District Attorney Scott Perrilloux said the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office began investigating the case after the victim's mother filed a complaint.

Carrier was arrested by LPSO on Sept. 21, 2012. Authorities said it is believed the victim was raped between 2009 and 2012.

Judge Robert Morrison handed down the sentence.

Perrilloux added a family member of the victim thanked the court and Perrilloux's office for their efforts in bringing justice for the family and protecting the victim from being further traumatized.
