DeKalb Co. woman charged with child endangerment

FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -

A DeKalb County woman has been arrested after she left her infant child in a car while she shopped.

Amanda Michelle Mauney, 35, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Police said a passerby alerted them after the child was spotted in a car at the Glenn Crossing Plaza off Highway 35.

Police said the car was not running. It was 43 degrees outside. 

When Mauney returned to her car approximately 10 minutes later, she was arrested.

Mauney was found with unknown pills and may face more charges, police said.

    A ground search ensued that lasted about four hours and covered approximately six miles, ending a few hundred yards east of Hays Mill Road where the suspects were caught in a hunting stand/shoot house.
