(WMC-TV) - The mother of the 7-week-old baby who has been missing since Thursday appeared in court on child abuse and neglect charges.
Andrea Walker, 33, claims she left her baby girl, Aniston Walker, home with a 3-year-old while she dropped her 5-year-old son off at school. Walker told police the baby was missing when she returned home 30 minutes later.
Investigators have used cadaver dogs, heavy machinery, and a lot of police resources in the search for 7-week-old Aniston.
Walker's attorney, Leslie Ballin, claimed her innocence in court and asked for her bond to be reduced to $25,000.
"Even though I'm telling you the charges may at some point be upgraded, do not rush to judgment in this case," said Ballin. "I represent an individual who has indicated through me to the court that she is not guilty. We have entered a not guilty plea."
Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said in a news conference Friday that Walker is not being as forthcoming with information as they hoped.
"To me, they just simply concluded that she hasn't told them what they wanted to hear," said Ballin.
A note at the bottom of the original affidavit written up about Walker, it reads that an experienced detective has "reason to believe the child has suffered serious bodily injury."
"There is an assumption that I've asked no one to jump to, that she is responsible for serious bodily injury at this point. Where's the proof?" added Ballin.
Walker's other two children are in the custody of family members.
The 33-year-old mother will remain in jail until a bond hearing that is scheduled for January 21.
