HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The first Command General Staff School course of 2014 is now underway on Redstone Arsenal. The post is one of five satellite centers across the U.S.

In 2013, three classes came through CGSS on the arsenal. The last class of 2013 graduated on Dec. 20. Fifty-four students graduated with that class, most of them from other states. However, eight graduates call Redstone Arsenal home, including Major Joe Davis.

Maj. Davis said, "I'm going back to the Army Aviation Flight Test Directorate, which is part of the Redstone Test Center, and I'm going to be a division chief for a flight test division."

The class is four months long and is a way for Majors to move up the leadership ladder. Maj. Davis said of the course, "This course really prepares you for upper level management and organizational leadership in organizations that are larger and have more complex issues to solve."

Some of the course work involved military history, tactics and leadership. All of those skills will help the graduates to evolve into the best leaders and solve the difficult problems that lie ahead. Maj. Davis remarked, "Let's face it, the problems that we're going to face as a military in the next decade, they're not simple problems."
