HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A class of fifth graders is about to go where, admittedly, many have gone before. But the experience is always a cherished one for all who go through it.

Students of the fifth grade class at Martin Luther King Elementary are headed to Space Camp. Huntsville's Elks Lodge is sponsoring the trip. They presented the class with a $28,000 check Friday morning.

The principal said this is the learning experience of a lifetime.

"It's a great opportunity for us to teach them about science. I think it's also a great opportunity to teach a little bit about our history and the history of the space program. It's going to be an educational experience, but we're also going to get them really excited about going," said Principal Jennifer Douthit.

The students will blast off to Space Camp in May.
