Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A recall has been issued for thousands of pounds of chicken that may be contaminated with a Salmonella Heidelberg strain.

Friday Tyson Foods Inc. recalled around 33,840 pounds of chicken products produced on October 11, 2013, according to the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The product was sold in 40-pound cases that contained four 10-pound chubs of Tyson mechanically separated chicken and has the code "P-13556" inside the USDA mark of inspection with case code 2843SDL1412 – 18.

The USDA was able to trace the link to the Tyson product after seven people became ill, two resulting in hospitalization, to a correction facility in Tennessee.
