Daughter 'person of interest' in mom's homicide investigation

A Morgan County homicide investigation is now focusing on the victim's daughter.

45-year-old Melissa Ann Huber was shot and killed Sunday in Somerville. Daughter Kristina Kandis Huber is not being called a suspect at this time, but is a "person of interest" and is in custody on another charge.

23-year-old Kristina was arrested the day her mother was found dead at the victim's home on Hill Road in Somerville. The charge is not connected with Melissa Huber's death; Kristina was taken in on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a separate case.

Sheriff Ana Franklin said Melissa Huber's body was discovered in the backyard Sunday afternoon. She died from a single gunshot wound to the chest. Franklin said the only other people at the home when the shooting happened were the victim's husband and Kristina. Kristina was found at another home.

The gun, a .22-caliber pistol which belonged to the victim and her husband, was found inside the home. Investigators checked for fingerprints and are awaiting ballistics testing results.
