SELMA, AL (WSFA) -

Selma police say a man is facing charges for allegedly setting his wife's car on fire.

Patrick Smith, 46, is charged with domestic violence criminal mischief 1st degree, according to Selma police.

Officers responded to a vehicle fire to the 100 block of South Maxey St., at 12:25 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses on the scene told officers they saw Smith douse the vehicle with gasoline and use paper to set it on fire. Smith's wife was out of town, according to police.

Authorities say the possible motive is Smith "is jealous and believes his wife is engaged in an extra-marital affair that had caused the couple to separate."

Smith posted a $75,000 bond.
