MOULTON, AL (WAFF) -

A Lawrence County couple were arrested Tuesday for passing bad checks at businesses.  

Justin Bud Shepard, 24, of Hillsboro, and Misty Lashane Shepard, 26, of Town Creek, are responsible for multiple forgeries, according to Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell.

The husband and wife are facing prosecution for theft of checks out of Madison County.

Deputies arrested Justin Shepard on three counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument while Misty Shepard is charged with three counts of second-degree forgery.

Mitchell said the couple faces prosecution in Morgan and Madison Counties for passing forged instruments there as well. Justin Shepard was also charged with two counts of second-degree theft of property in an unrelated event where over $500 worth of scrap metal was stolen.

The Shepards are being held in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of bond.
