To either keep or fire Carol Wicks as Director of Animal Services will be a decision made by the city council. If it comes to that, it would be put on a Decatur City Council meeting agenda for further review. So far, it is not on the agenda for their next meeting on Sep 2. If the issue comes before the city council, that's when we hope to find out why Mayor Kyle decided to put Wicks on paid administrative leave. He will not comment on it, saying he cannot talk about a pending personnel issue. HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Most of us are fortunate. We can escape the bitterly cold temperatures because we have a warm place to call home. But there are some whose home is a tent outside.

After learning about the wretched conditions the homeless are living in, a group of friends and family knew they had to do something to help. They organized an effort to prepare hot food and delivered it to the homeless at Tent City Monday afternoon.

"It's very cold out here, so we being the people that we are decided to make some soup, grab some socks and anything they may need down here to help comfort them," said Kathy DeCastro.

"There was one man who was sitting there shivering," said Avitra Johnson. "I wish I could take him home with me. Really, I am afraid he won't do well in a couple of days. He needs to go someplace."

The group said those at the camp requested pants and sweaters. DeCastro said she made a call to a local thrift store that agreed to donate some clothing. She plans to return to the camp Tuesday to distribute the clothes to the homeless. But the group said there is still a great need for blankets, jeans, shoes, socks, and long johns."
