DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Decatur's City Council has voted in favor of a project to restore a historic railroad depot.

By a 3-2 vote Monday, the council approved plans to buy the century-old L&N Railroad depot.

The projected cost to restore the depot is more than $2.5 million. Decatur will contribute about half of that money; the rest is secured through grants.

The city may use the space for Decatur Police Department offices and for public parking.
