Police: Phenix City man shot after pointing rifle at police

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

A man has been hospitalized after reportedly refusing to put down his rifle and pointing it at police officers, according to Phenix City Police.

On Sunday, Jan. 5, at around 4:37 p.m., police responded to reports of a man chasing his wife around with a knife outside of a home at 1200 8th Ave. While driving to the location, the officers were informed that the man was sitting on the porch with a rifle, stating that he would fight the police.

The officers arrived at the house to find the man on the porch with an AK-47 style rifle. They instructed him to put the weapon down.

The man refused, and pointed the rifle at the officers.

The officers gave further voice commands to the subject, who continued to refuse. Police say he responded in an aggressive manner causing one of the officers to fire at him, striking him once.

The unidentified male subject was transported to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus. His condition remains unknown at this time.

The case is currently being investigated by Alabama Bureau of Investigation, Montgomery, Ala.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
