MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Montgomery Firefighters are bringing home a win after competing, and placing second in the 2013 Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge LION's Invitational.

The firefighters had to compete in a head-to-head race, as they simulated the physical demands of real-life firefighting by performing a series of five tasks.

Tasks ranged from climbing a five-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses, and rescuing a life size 175 pound victim. The competitors were not only racing themselves, but their opponent, and the clock.

This event attracts hundreds of U.S. and Canadian municipal fire departments at more than 25 locations. It has also expanded to countries around the world including South Africa, Germany, Argentina, Chile and New Zealand.

"This event is an incredible physical challenge and Mayor Todd Strange and I are honored that Montgomery has been selected to participate and are appreciative of the physical and mental commitment it takes to qualify for this honor," said Montgomery Department of Public Safety Director Christopher Murphy."
