LINCOLN COUNTY, TN (WAFF) -

The Lincoln County Jail received smoke damage and more than a hundred inmates were evacuated after a fire broke out Friday night.

Sheriff Murray Blackwelder said the fire started in a lock down cell of an inmate who was not injured. The sheriff said the investigation is ongoing as to how the inmate started the blaze.

One deputy was transported to a local hospital for observation for smoke inhalation.

Blackwelder said the fire was contained to a cell behind a solid door, but there is extensive smoke damage to the cell block which spread to two adjoining cell blocks.

About 130 inmates were being held in the jail at the time, and all had to be evacuated. All have returned to their cells.
