HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Police have arrested a man on arson charges after he allegedly set a house on fire during a domestic disturbance.
Fire crews were called to fight a large fire at a duplex on the 3500 block of Alpine Street around 4 p.m. Friday.
Heavy smoke could be seen for at least a mile away by passing motorists. The duplex sustained significant fire damage.
Two women and a dog were inside the duplex at the time, but escaped the flames unharmed.
Huntsville police said the fire was originally reported as a domestic violence situation. The tenant of one section of the duplex told officers her boyfriend, Roberto Rodriguez, set the fire during the fight before running from the scene.
Police located Rodriguez on Drake Avenue a short time later. He was charged with two counts of first-degree arson.
