DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - Amanda Bender has been in the health gym business for a while. Before you sign a contract, she advised that you ask yourself some questions... especially "why?"
"How do you currently feel at the weight you are at? What health concerns do you have? If you don't do something, what's going to happen three years from now, five years from now, ten years from now," Bender said.
She said to set some goals for accomplishment, and have some realistic expectations. "Know that there is no magic pill out there and that commitment is going to be what leads to success," she said.
One tip that is crucial before you start any type of exercise program is to make sure you get clearance from your doctor. Your doctor may have some limitations for you and it's important to work within those guidelines.
"We check for muscle imbalances, flexibility issues - where your weak points are," said Bender.
She said it's important to have a plan in place and visit the facility at the times you think you want to work out, and make sure those days and times fit your lifestyle.
"Things like amenities that the facility offers; is the facility clean; what programs that they have, group fitness classes," added Bender.
By doing a little homework and following some guidelines, it's possible to have a healthier body with a fitness routine you can live with.
