Huntsville gets a lick of frigid air ahead of Arctic blast

The new year is turning into a busy one.

Yes, it's snowing in some parts of the Tennessee Valley tonight and, yes, it's cold. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the teens tonight as a wintry weather system sweeps through. But conditions are expected to get vastly 'wintrier' over the next few days as lows drop into the single digits early next week. At WAFF 48, we're breaking down one frigid forecast and taking a look at the havoc such stunning cold conditions can create… and what you can do to be prepared.

Three suspects are now locked up in the murder case of a man found dead in a burning car.  Gary Willis was discovered in Geraldine. He had been shot several times. Two suspects are charged with kidnapping and murder for Willis' death. A third is charged with  kidnapping and hindering prosecution.

And Huntsville's first homicide of 2014 remains unsolved. 21-year-old Mercedes Morris was shot in a hail of gunfire that perforated a house on Bridge Road. She died at Huntsville Hospital. We're checking with Huntsville Police for the latest on this investigation, and we'll have the whole story on WAFF 48 News at 10.
