'How we achieve excellence in our school' video contest

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Alabama Association of School Board's Board of Directors announces its third annual statewide ''How We Achieve Excellence in Our School'' video contest for public school students.

The contest applauds excellence in teaching, the creativity of Alabama's public school students and the positive school experiences that inspire students to graduate.

This year's contest allows students from in grades from 6-12 to send in videos. Previously only high school students were able to enter into the contest.

The contest begins Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 and all entries must be postmarked by Friday, April 11, 2014, and submitted to the Alabama Association of School Boards.

Four lucky schools will win prizes for their 30-60 second commercials or public service announcements. The top four will be shown at AASB's annual convention on December 5th at 8:30 am. at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham, The Wynfrey Hotel and at a future Alabama State Board of Education meeting in Montgomery.

The videos will also be posted on Alabama Public Televisions website, www.aptv.org and AASB's website, www.AlabamaSchoolBoards.org. The entry forms and details are also posted to this site. Only two students from each Alabama's school system can submit entries.

Prizes are:
• First Prize: $1,500, Bloggie Touch video camera, jump drive and a certificate
• Second Prize: $1,000, jump drive and a certificate
• Third Prize: $500, jump drive and a certificate
• Honorable Mention: Gift bag and a certificate
