MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Governor Robert Bentley has awarded a grant which will help the group, Alabama Mothers Against Drunk Driving, help victims of drunken drivers.

The $27,678 grant will help the organization provide victims services including court accompaniment and assistance in filing for victims' compensation.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made possible by the U.S. Department of Justice. Governor Bentley also matched the funds in the amount of $6,919 to help supplement the award.

MADD, who helps those who have lost loved ones in crashes caused by alcohol-impaired drivers, has a crisis hotline for victims, offers individual and group counseling and educates the public about the dangers of drinking and driving.
