HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Wednesday night in Huntsville.
Authorities identified the victim as 21-year-old Mercedes Morris. Investigators said Morris was waiting inside a car around 9:30 p.m. in a driveway on the 2700 block of Bridge Road at the time of the shooting.
According to police, several offenders approached and began shooting at the house and that's when Morris was shot. After the shooting, officers said her boyfriend came out of the house and found Morris still inside the car. Investigators said he then drove to the Shell Gas Station at Blue Spring Road and Sparkman Drive where he dialed 911.
Morris was transported by HEMSI to Huntsville Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Morris' family said they were devastated by Mercedes' death and are asking the community to help catch her killer. Cousin Xzavia Acklin said she was traumatized by the news and that she had lost a role model.
"All I want to do is make her proud and she's gone. To what? Gun violence. It hurts me," Acklin said.
The family said Morris graduated from Lee High School a few years ago. Funeral arrangements are underway.
No arrests have been made at this time. Police continue to investigate this case.
