NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Auburn receiver Sammie Coates has made big moves both on and off the field.
Coates has emerged as the second-ranked Tigers' best receiver going into Monday's BCS championship game against No. 1 Florida State. He's a deep threat on an offense mostly noted for its prolific running game.
Coates says he also has "made a lot of big steps with my life" since last season. The biggest was getting baptized.
The sophomore receiver says he became more focused when it comes to football.
Coates ranks second nationally with a 22.8-yard average on 38 catches, seven for touchdowns. He had just six catches as a freshman.
Florida State cornerback Lamarcus Joyner says the Seminoles defensive backs "must know where he's at at all times on the football field."
