ARAB, AL (WAFF) -

An Arab man is hoping his New Year's wish is for a vacant lot next to his home to be cleaned up comes true.

Glenn Young said it's been an eyesore for more than three decades. Some residents who live around the lot feel that it's a jungle embedded in their neighborhood.

Young lives on 10th Circle in Arab, and his problem is a neighbor's lot next door. Young said it has been overgrown and unsightly for decades…and he's not alone. Others on the road wish something could be done to get the lot cleaned up.

Young said they do not know who owns the lot, but they have heard that the owner passed away several years ago. Young feels it's a health hazard. He said he's pulled garbage and other rubbish from the lot, but it's also a haven for things that should be in the county, not their neighborhood.

"Coyotes, armadillos, opossums, raccoons. They carry diseases and stuff like that," he said. Neighbors who have animals they'd like to let out can't because they don't know what diseases are being carried in there, Young said.

Mayor Bob Joslin said he plans to take a look at the situation in the next couple of days and will know what can be done soon.
