CRENSHAW COUNTY, AL (WSFA) -

The teen charged in the shooting death of a fellow Troy University student Wednesday had his first court appearance Thursday. His bond was set at $100,000.

Taylor Diggers, 19, of Brantley, is charged with manslaughter in the death of 18-year-old Kristen Fuller, of Luverne. Authorities say the shooting happened Wednesday at a New Year's Eve party at a home just off U.S. Hwy. 29 between Luverne and Troy.

The shooting happened at 4:20 a.m., according to a statement from the Alabama Bureau of Investigation. ABI is investigating at the request of the sheriff and district attorney.

Neither Fuller nor Driggers lived at the location of the shooting, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident, according to the district attorney.

During Thursday's hearing, the district attorney asked that Driggers be held until at least after Fuller's funeral, and the judge agreed. Driggers will be eligible for bond on Tuesday.

If Driggers makes bail, he will be placed under house arrest, though he will be able to do certain things such as travel to school and see his attorney. He will be barred from leaving the state without a judge's permission and is not allowed to have drugs, alcohol or firearms. He'll also has a weekend curfew.

Troy University officials confirmed that both Fuller and Driggers were enrolled students. Fuller was a freshman.

"The University extends its most sincere sympathies to the Fuller family during this difficult time," university officials said in a statement.

Driggers signed to play on the university's football team in February, but officials say he hadn't joined the team yet.

"It was anticipated that he would join the team in the spring or summer of 2014," according to the university.

Driggers was a football star at Brantley High School and part of the school's state championship team in 2012.
