DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Take a bunch of cold-natured people, a cold river and a quest for adventure and what do you have? A recipe for the annual Polar Bear Plunge in Decatur.

While this year was a little warmer, it was still an icy plunge into the Tennessee River.

More than a hundred people gathered at the Riverwalk Marina for the Polar Bear Plunge. It's not for the weary or faint of heart.

Multiple generations gathered, and some even looked like they were going to dance in their tutus. Diane Howard, one of the "polar bears," said, "We wanted to do something fun and different for the new year, and we wanted to bring in the new year in style and in fashion."

The age range of these polar bears seems to get wider every year. Lawson Craig, 4, looked forward to his cool dip. Lawson said he was excited, and when asked why he was participating, he said, "Because I've never done it before."

And for those that took the plunge, most of them said it was a lot colder than they thought it would be.

The event grows bigger and bigger each year. Are you up to braving the cold next year?
