FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -

What started out as two burglaries in Fort Payne has now spread to a two-county investigation. In all, seven agencies are now involved in the case. Three people have been arrested and more are to come.

Brandi Nicole Rothell, Brent Eugene Rothell, and Jason Ryan Benefield, all of Fort Payne, face various charges including drugs, theft, and possession of a forged instrument.

Fort Payne Police said a home and a business were both burglarized the day after Christmas. A truck, Auburn memorabilia and checks were stolen. The checks were later passed at a local bank and in several areas of the county, which has only prompted the expansion of the investigation.

The Rothells are both out on bond. Benefield remains in the DeKalb County Jail on a $35,000 bond.
