MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Marshall County is looking to fill a vacancy on the county commission.

C.W. "Buddy" Allen died last week after a short bout with cancer. The commission chairman said Allen's replacement will be an appointment made by the governor.

Allen served as commissioner for District Three, covering the southernmost portion of Marshall County, for nearly a year before his death. He was buried on Monday.

Chairman James Hutcheson had high praises for Allen and said he enjoyed working with him this past year in serving the citizens of Marshall County. Hutcheson said names are already making their way around, and it will be up to Governor Robert Bentley to decide who will fill the remaining three years of Allen's term.

"District Three has a good administrator and a good road foreman, but you still need somebody in that district that has a represented official to represent the people. You have to have somebody that does their legal work as far as signing time cards and doing all the legal part. We just need somebody in that district as quick as possible," said Hutcheson.

Hutcheson said he will oversee the legal work required in the interim. No word on when the governor will make the appointment.
