NORTH ALABAMA (WAFF) -

The Alabama Tourism Department has released their top ten events for 2014, and several are hosted here in the Tennessee Valley.

Wildlife and music play key roles in the list. In February, the Alabama Music Hall of Fame induction banquet comes to Florence. The banquet has been a big deal for years, but the banquet was held in other areas.

In January, you will be able to catch a bird's-eye view of eagles at Lake Guntersville State Park. Their Eagle Awareness Weekends will run from mid-January through February, and naturalists will be on hand to help you learn more about the majestic national treasures.

Guntersville's Bassmaster Classic tournament also made the list. In late February Guntersville plays host to the dual-city fishing expo alongside Birmingham.

Events such as these bring much needed travel dollars from the people who flock into the region to partake in Alabama's natural beauty and splendor.

The tourism department's Brian Jones said the tourism industry in the region is "phenomenal. These events bring people not just from the area, from the southeast, but nationwide… like the Alabama Bass Trail. When you bring in all of these fishermen, you bring in their families. They're not just fishing; they're staying in hotel rooms for three, four, or five nights," he said.

The complete list of the top ten events for 2014 is as follows:

  • Eagle Awareness Weekends, Lake Guntersville State Park
  • Mardi Gras, Mobile
  • Museum of Alabama grand opening, Montgomery
  • Bassmaster Classic, Lake Guntersville/Birmingham
  • Alabama Music Hall of Fame induction banquet, Florence
  • Battle of Horseshoe Bend 200th Anniversary, Daviston
  • ‘To Kill a Mockingbird' 25th season, Monroeville
  • National Shrimp Festival, Gulf Shores
  • Alabama Bass Trail Championship, Jasper
  • Lyric Theatre re-opening, Birmingham

Why did Cracker Barrel fire Brad's wife? It's really no one's business, other than Brad's and his wife's, but that hasn't stopped people around the world from demanding answers after a Harrison County, IN, man publicly asked the restaurant chain why his wife Nanette was let go from her job at the Cracker Barrel in Corydon.
