KILGORE, TX (KLTV) - More information has been learned about the physician arrested in East Texas on Friday.

According to the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, eight of 71-year-old William Martin Valuck's patients died of prescription overdoses and another reportedly caused a fatal traffic accident.

Valuck, who was wanted by Oklahoma law enforcement, was arrested at his Kilgore home Friday afternoon on nine counts of homicide.

"Our investigation has revealed that during a period of approximately one year, Dr. Valuck prescribed extremely large amounts of controlled substances, including the most abused prescription drugs on the street, to numerous patients with very little medical examination or the establishment of a valid doctor-patient relationship," says agent T.N. Brisco, with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

Three of Valuck's patients died just one day after he wrote their prescriptions, according to an arrest affidavit. One of those patients collapsed while putting up her Christmas tree.

Valuck did not accept any form of insurance and all office visits were paid by cash or credit card. The Oklahoma state licensing agency found that he was prescribing controlled dangerous substances at a rate that would exceed 3.5 million pills in just one year. Many pharmacies refused to fill his prescriptions.

The physician's attorney surrendered his medical license on December 13 after a state agency accused him of unethical conduct and gross negligence.

On Monday, Oklahoma law enforcement officials were preparing to extradite Valuck to Oklahoma City.
