The spirit of giving is always high during the holidays and right after natural disasters because most people say it's top of mind. The Salvation Army, United Way and The American Red Cross get almost half of there yearly donations during these periods. Giving when it's top of mind is great but wouldn't it be incredible as we start 2014 and think about our resolutions to Lose Weight, Exercise more, Stop Smoking or becoming more Financially responsible we resolve to volunteer or help the needy more. Here in The Heart of the Valley we have many non profits that would be thrilled for a few more donations or an extra hour or two of volunteer time.. The Volunteer Center of Madison County is the local connection between volunteers and community needs. Over the past year, the Volunteer Center has facilitated over 150,000 hours of volunteer service to over 150 non profit agencies in Madison County. Make a resolution to volunteer more in 2014 and help make someone else's life a little brighter. I'm Vanessa Oubre and that My Take, What's Yours?
