MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

State troopers have confirmed that one person has died following a wreck early Monday morning.

The wreck happened on Highway 431 near Claysville in Marshall County at 3:45 a.m., troopers said. Southbound lanes in front of the Department of Transportation building were shut down as a result but have since been reopened.

Trooper Curtis Summerville said two vehicles were involved and that one person was killed.

Troopers said 57-year-old John Edward Beja rear-ended an elderly Guntersville couple. Beja was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The elderly couple was injured and taken to an area hospital for treatment.
