Police collaborating against gang violence after Richmond bar stabbing

Patrols are stepping up outside of a south Richmond business where four people were stabbed. Sources say it happened at the Bear's Hideaway Restaurant and Bar on the 5200 block of Hull Street. The case has police busy. Sources say two rival biker gangs may be involved in a stabbing that injured four people and officers are on alert in case one of those groups decides to retaliate.

"This is news for me," said Miguel Ortiz who lives directly behind Bear's Hideaway.

"Sometimes it's very loud because many people on the motorcycles," he said.

But until now, Ortiz says he hasn't seen anything sketchy. It's why he and others in the area are so concerned. Richmond Police say a group attacked four people just before 10pm Thursday -- punching and stabbing them.

"I think it's kind of childish. You're grown you should pay attention to what really matters…Most of those guys probably have wives and kids at home. Not thinking will probably lead you to do something you really shouldn't do," said Tyrel Pope who is concerned about crime.

Across the street at Tony's Auto Repair, owners are surprised.

"I haven't heard anything bad in the past…I've been hearing they do very good business, people going in and out, very quiet nice local neighborhood restaurant," said Tony Johnson.

Now, he just wants to make sure he and other businesses are safe.

"We need police to be checking businesses especially late in the evening because a lot has been happening on Hull Street and it's growing," Johnson said.

There were police patrols in the area Friday night and earlier in the day, law enforcement knocked on doors - as police try to get to the bottom of this stabbing that's leaving area businesses in shock.

"{It's} sad you know….They're open at night time but we close at 6. We didn't see anything," said Danny Kim of Manchester Cleaners.

A manager at Bear's Hideaway says the incident happened outside of the premises. She says the establishment does not tolerate violent behavior.

Those who were injured are expected to be ok.
