HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The Salvation Army opened its doors Wednesday to feed dozens of people at its annual Christmas Day lunch.

It was an opportunity for those who wouldn't otherwise have a warm meal to stop in and have one. Wednesday's guests enjoyed ham, casseroles, dressing, rolls and desserts.

The charity serves the needy year-round, but it likes to have an extra meal for Christmas Day.

"It's really rewarding. They're thankful that they get to be here and they get to eat and be around people who care about them," said head cook Victoria Lewis.

The group also served a Thanksgiving meal in November which fed nearly 300 people.
