Newnan store burglarized for second Christmas in a row

Posted: Updated:

A small business in Newnan is having a very un-merry Christmas this year. For the third time in four years, thieves have broken into the Computer Advantage store and burglarized it just days before Christmas.

Chris Krowchuk, the general manager of the store, was called at 3 a.m. Sunday by the alarm company and asked if he wanted them to call the police.

By the time police arrived at the store, the thieves were long gone. There was a gaping hole in the front door and thousands of dollars' worth of iPad Airs and MacBook Pros were missing.

Video surveillance caught the whole thing. You can hear what would turn out to be a landscaping stone crash into one of the store's double-paned security windows with a thud.

The glass spider-webs but refuses to give way. They try smashing through the next window with the same results. The glass in the door was not strong enough to turn them away a third time.

Using gloves, one of the thieves started to stretch a small hole in the glass in order to squeeze through. Suddenly, the stone came hurtling through the lower portion of the door and moments later the would-be Grinch was slithering through the hole, followed closely by a companion.

They ignored the items on the shelves and went straight to the storage room at the back of the store.

There they found what they were looking for: iPad Airs and MacBook Pros. Less than a minute later they were running out of the store with their arms full of the expensive items.

"It was a sinking feeling," Krowchuk said, "I employ nine people in this store, and that's a lot of profit that we are just not going to be able to make up."

In Krowchuk's business, the profit margins on the items that were stolen are low, meaning they have to sell more items to cover the loss, something not likely to happen with just three days before Christmas.

With the security of the area in question, Krowchuk lamented that it may be time to shut the store down for good, or move it out of Newnan, which in turn would mean nine employees could be out of a job, and that's not something people want to hear right before Christmas.

Even though the thieves stole the merchandise and his employees' chances at Christmas bonuses, Krowchuk hasn't lost his faith in humanity. "There's good people out there. You just have to find them," said Krowchuk.

Police are looking for three suspects in this case. The first thief through the door was wearing dark colored track pants with white stripes up the side, white tennis shoes, and a blue hooded sweatshirt with what appears to be white and red baseball batting gloves.

The second thief that entered the store was wearing white gloves, dark colored pants with a grey or white belt and a gray sweatshirt with dark colored hat and shoes.

A third person appears to have stayed in the getaway car. You can see the driver take their foot off the brake once the second thief enters the store.
