LACEYS SPRING, AL (WAFF) -

Day eleven in the search for a missing Lacey's Spring man resulted in no further indication on his whereabouts. Crews wrapped up Friday's search soon after sundown.

74-year-old Franklin Payne was last seen Dec. 10 near his home on Pinehill Circle. Payne suffers from dementia.

Sheriff's deputies held off on putting search boats on the water because they wanted to cover more ground in the wooded areas near Payne's home.

Friday was the third straight day volunteers with the North Alabama Search Dog Association combed through the woods with deputies, trying to see if their dogs could pick up a scent.

Boats will be put in area ponds as the next step in the search, followed by a search of the river.

"We're not giving up home that we find him somewhere or he turns up somewhere, but I think we owe it to him and the family to do the best search that we can," said Captain John Bili.

Bili said the search has increased to a three-mile radius and will continue to increase the longer Payne is not found.

The decision whether to continue the search through the weekend is still being weighed. The threat of severe weather may keep them from resuming the effort until next week.
