PHIL CAMPBELL, AL (WAFF) -

Parts of the Shoals are taking precautions for severe weather, particularly in Phil Campbell, an area that knows all too well what the weather can bring.

The city is still rebuilding after it was destroyed during the April 2011 tornado outbreak. City leaders said since the disaster, they put more emphasis on alerting the community before the weather gets bad. But no matter what, survivors are always extra cautious.

"The main thing since we've been through the F-5 tornado is we decided we need to make people aware of it, get the word out, make sure people know there is a possibility of severe weather," said Police Chief Merrell Potter.

Potter said the city has their storm shelters open and accessible if they are needed.
