A Boeing spokesperson confirmed Friday the company is alerting cities on whether they're in or out of contention Boeing's $10 billion 777x manufacturing plant.

"Boeing has started notifying locations of their status in the 777X site selection process. We are not identifying any of those locations," said Boeing's Doug Alder. "We're appreciative of everyone who has taken part, and our teams continue to evaluate the sites that remain under consideration. A final decision is expected early next year."

Attached to the 777x project is thousands of jobs. Alabama Governor Robert Bentley released a statement Friday afternoon on the Boeing selection project.

"Alabama is extremely interested in having the Boeing 777X production in our state. Boeing has had a strong presence in Alabama for over 50 years and is already familiar with the positive business climate in Alabama. Alabama remains a party to a non-disclosure agreement with Boeing and I cannot comment further," said Bentley.

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle's office said Friday they could not confirm or deny Huntsville made the short list for the project. On Friday afternoon, Greensboro, North Carolina's mayor told the Greensboro News & Record that she had been informed Boeing removed all three of North Carolina's sites from its list of potential 777x plans.

The 777x project became available after a Washington state machinist union leaders voted down a contract from Boeing in November. The two sides sat down and renegotiated a new contract about a week ago, but the union leaders voted no for a second time.
