The search continues for those responsible in the murder of an Etowah County man whose body was found in a burned vehicle this week in DeKalb County.

38-year-old Gary Lee Willis was found dead in a burning car on County Road 135 near Geraldine.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris said investigators believe Willis was involved with dangerous people at the time of his death. Willis' body was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The sheriff said a task force of investigators from DeKalb, Etowah and Marshall Counties are assisting with the investigation.

Harris suspects Willis may have been killed somewhere else and his body dumped in DeKalb County.

Willis lived on Leeth Gap Cutoff Road in the Whitesboro community just outside of Boaz's Etowah County area. Some of his neighbors said they aren't surprised, and while refusing to go on-camera, said they did not associate with Willis because of suspicion of his involvement with the ‘dangerous people' Sheriff Harris referred to.

Sheriff Harris said they have two persons of interest in the case. One is currently in jail on unrelated charges, but no arrests have been made.
