Madison Co. officials pledge improvements after misused funds incident

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong said the county is back on the right track after a state audit revealed a former county employee may have misused funds.

Strong said less than a month after becoming chairman, a commissioner alerted him to irregularities in District 3. Strong said he turned what he calls an ‘isolated incident' to the appropriate officials and the attorney general is now handling the case.

He said the commission is now taking steps to prevent this type of thing from happening again by approving funds for a new software system. Strong said the current accounting system is outdated.

"This software package is going to help with transparency, but also with X's and O's of where Madison County's finances are," Strong said.

He said the commission is also working to put fail-safe systems in place and eliminate opportunities of this nature.
