JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

One man is in custody and another sought by police after the pair allegedly used a local Facebook trading page in Jackson County to scam a man out of $400.

The man saw a picture of a trailer he wanted to purchase on the internet, so he set up a meeting with the two men and made the deal; only to find out they didn't own the trailer.

22-year-old Truan Bobby Evans of Scottsboro is in custody at the Scottsboro City Jail. Meanwhile, warrants are out for 22-year-old Derek Chapman. Both men face misdemeanor and felony theft charges.

Police said the pair lured a man to the Riverside Mobile Home Park after he saw a utility trailer on the Jackson County Buy/Sell/Trade page on Facebook. Investigators believe prior to his arrival, the pair moved the trailer across the road, where they met the victim.

Unable to hook it to his vehicle, the man sought assistance from a neighbor, who happened to be the real owner of the trailer, who informed the man he had purchased a stolen trailer.

With Christmas coming, police remind people to be extra careful when purchasing things over the internet. Remember the old saying – if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. And if you are making a transaction with people you do not know, conduct transactions in a very public place.
