GERALDINE, AL (WAFF) - Firefighters discovered a body inside a burning car near Geraldine in DeKalb County Tuesday morning.
The call came in before 11 a.m. on County Road 135; the body was discovered after firefighters put out the flames.
The victim's body has been sent to the state forensics lab for examination and identification.
DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said evidence found at the scene suggests foul play and they are investigating the case as a homicide.
"Etowah County has been contacted, Marshall County has been contacted, also Cherokee County. They're trying to follow up leads to see," said Harris.
Etowah County authorities said a missing person was reported over the weekend and other law enforcement agencies were notified Monday. They are unsure if the body found in the car is that person, but investigators are working closely with DeKalb County investigators.
Investigators are working to process the car for evidence after moving it to another location.
