SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) -

A city council placed a Shoals church on the public nuisance list.

The Sheffield City Council said the old Grace Episcopal Church is unsafe. The church is located on the corner of Montgomery and 7th Street.

City officials said the building's walls are leaning and there are holes in the roof. The church's stained glass has also been removed.

According to officials, the church has not been used for several years and its current physical state makes safety a priority.

"We just want to make sure that no one gets hurt and we want to make sure everything is like it should be. We want our downtown, along with all of our city, to look good, and that's the main issue," said city councilman Steve Nix.

City officials will meet with building owners to discuss the future of the building.
