HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - It's hard to know where to start with Willena Drive, but John Parish says he'll start with speeding.
"When they come off the hill, it's like Huntsville dragway, all the way to the curve down there and the same way coming in the other direction," said Parish. He's lived on Willena Drive for 14 years and figures drivers go at least 30, 40 miles an hour down the road. Willena curves off Mountain Gap Road, east of Bailey Cove. His concern is that the neighborhood has changed.
"There used to be a lot of older people in the neighborhood," said Parish. "Now, there are a lot of young people with kids in here, so I'm afraid with kids running out in the road and people flying down the street.
Then, there's the street itself which has patches for some of the cracks and holes. Parish would rather see a repaving.
"It's just pathetic," said Parish. "There are dips, and I just have to come through there and rat race through there in my car just to keep from bottoming out."
Parish says the city told him Willena would be resurfaced last year, but it wasn't. I checked, and the resurfacing supervisor is checking on Willena's status.
The other problem?. Water collecting at the bottom of the hill "There's a drain on one side of the street and not on this side of the street, and we're right at the ditch, and water just pools here," said Parish.
